Mermaid urged to change not so Homely ranking

Mermaid Beach residents are being urged to have their say on a new website that says the beachfront suburb does not rank in the top 30 Gold Coast suburbs.

The new real estate website Homely.com.au says Mermaid Beach ranks 32nd among Gold Coast suburbs, just ahead of Pacific Pines (34th) Ormeau (35th) and Nerang (38th)

John Henderson Professionals Mermaid Beach director Luke Henderson said the results were a “joke”.

“The site ranks Bethania, which is in Logan and not the Gold Coast, as the city’s seventh best suburb,” said Mr Henderson. “As far as I can determined Mermaid Beach is ranked 32nd, just behind Robina, simply because one person made a negative comment.

“That is how ridiculous the ranking system is. The survey seriously suffers from a lack of consumer ratings, with only five people contributing to Mermaid Beach’s rankings.”

Mr Henderson said he agree that Sorrento, Broadbeach Waters and Tallai, which take up the top three spots on the list, were great suburbs.

However he said Mermaid Beach did not deserve its description as “an overpriced rude area that deserves better friendlier people”.

Mr Henderson urged residents to visit the site to help show the real picture for the suburb.

“I have nothing against the other suburbs but I believe that if people had chance they would prefer to live at Mermaid Beach rather than Coombabah (4th), Labrador (6th ) and Molendinar (13th).”
