OntheNet ready for NBN

The team at Gold Coast technology business OntheNet is celebrating after becoming the first Gold Coast company to be able to directly connect to the National Broadband Network.

While most Gold Coast suburbs will have to wait at least two years before they can receive the high-speed internet service, the deal is a coup for the Varsity Lakes-headquartered business.

OntheNet managing director Tak Woo said it would allow the company to offer its clients – ranging from large organisations such as the Gold Coast City Council through to households – direct access to high speed internet services.

“In order to directly connect to the NBN we had to pass significant technical certification testing which we successfully completed with flying colours,’’ said Mr Woo.

“The certification will give OntheNet a major advantage over competitors because the direct arrangement, and having our own team of local field staff, will ensure the smoothest possible transition for our clients.”

“It will also allow us to offer our customers the best value broadband packages because we won’t have to pay a middle man.”

Mr  Woo said the company has set up a permanent testing facility into NBN’s Queensland network, with testing upcoming NBN features a part of the ongoing process of the NBN rollout.

“OntheNet is pleased that high speed internet is now a strong nation building policy focus by all the major parties”, said Mr Woo.

“The wholesale broadband agreement and the establishment of testing facilities will mean that even if there is a change of government and there are changes to the overall NBN strategy,

On the Net will maintain its position and we would be able to adopt to any changes very quickly,’’ he said.

Mr Woo said the first Gold Coast connection for the NBN was expected to occur within months at a new property development site.

He said the northern end of the Gold Coast was projected to be on-line within three years.
