Gold Coast to farewell Black Caviar

A select group of 300 Gold Coast residents will celebrate Black Caviar’s amazing racing career with co-owner Jill Taylor at a gala lunch in June.

Plans for the exclusive invitation-only Rhinestones and Caviar lunch were unveiled immediately after the announcement of Black Caviar’s retirement last month.

Lunch organisers Karen Plant and Ann Glennister said the June 12 fundraising lunch, which was to be the first event held as part of the Jeep National Finals Rodeo week, was nearly sold out after only one day.

“We have seating at the Arts Centre Gold Coast for 300 people at the lunch and it appears we only have 50 or so tickets after only one day, which we hope will raise more than $50,000 for the Paradise Kids charity,’’ said Mrs Plant.

“Catriona Rowntree has agreed to host the lunch while Black Caviar co-owner Jill Taylor will be one of our guest speakers.

“As part of the event, we will be selling off from authorised Black Caviar memorabilia.

“The memorabilia include a stunning 5th Avenue Jewellers-designed 18-carat white gold, black and white diamond collier necklace with 25 carats of natural diamonds, and a matching set of earrings.

“Jill Taylor wore the specially designed set, known as the Black Caviar collection, to Black Caviar’s final outing.

“We will also be auctioning an authorised oil painting of Black Caviar by award-winning international artist Di Skelly Heron.

“Di is the only western artist ever to be invited to hold a solo exhibition in the exclusive Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and her work has been featured in three popular Australian television documentaries.

“On top of that, Glass restaurant is doing 25 bottles of White Ice Imperial Moët and 25 silver winner’s cups to represent each of Black Caviar’s wins.”

Mrs Plant said the event would be the perfect way to start of the week of celebrations surrounding the Jeep National Finals Rodeo.

The Jeep National Finals Rodeo, which is the peak event in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) circuit, is set to be held inside the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre over five sessions from Thursday, June 13 through to Sunday, June 17.
