Rodeo rides back to Gold Coast
Written on the 15 April 2013
The national finals of the Australian professional rodeo circuit returns to the Gold Coast in June with all the flair of a mini-Las Vegas event.
Cowboys and cowgirls will descend on the Gold Coast for four days of heart-stopping action as the country’s best professional rodeo competitors battle for national titles.
Building from the success of last year, organisers have signed international car company Jeep as the naming rights sponsorship for the 2013 National Finals Rodeo.
The Jeep National Finals Rodeo, which is the peak event in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) circuit, will be held inside the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre over five gruelling sessions from Thursday, June 13 through to Sunday, June 16, 2013.
Professional riders compete at more than 100 rodeos throughout Australia each year, with only the top 15 cowboys and cowgirls in six events – Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc, Bareback Bronc Riding, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling and Ladies Barrel Racing – invited to compete at the national finals.
APRA chief executive Steve Hilton said this was the pinnacle of rodeo events in Australia.
“The best of Australia’s professional rodeo riders come to compete on the Gold Coast in Australia’s richest rodeo and it really is a showcase for the sport.”
The annual event attracts tens of thousands of competitors, family, friends and rodeo fans from all over Australia and New Zealand. The value to the Gold Coast economy has been estimated to be worth more than $10 million.
This year a variety of side events will be held in conjunction with Jupiters Hotel & Casino Gold Coast and the wider Gold Coast community. For further details go to www.nfrgoldcoast.com.au.
